'Critical Mass' is the New BRF album created over the 4 year period since their last full length album 'Tenterhook'. The album was recorded through an international pandemic and growing world political unrest, which definitely flavored the album giving BRF more of the material that has fueled their music since their inception in 1980. The album is a powerful distillation of the core elements of the band, and sees them at their peak with a strong and powerfully recorded album of songs, always with their core beauty and outside observe stance intact.

The album is delivered as a traditional long player listening experience, with the songs ordered to flow, 50 connected minutes to be immersed in.
    The songs are
1 • Fall and Rise Again.
    2 • No Wonder.
    3 • Remote Science.
    4 • We Be Free.
    5 • What We've Become.
    6 • Atonement.
    7 • Asylum.
    8 • Exit Here.
    9 • World View.
    10 • So Be It.
    11 • Doubt Benefit.

The title 'Critical Mass' aptly refers to many aspects that are integral to the band and this specific album and the conditions it was created in.
"Critical Mass", - to reach a breaking point, or reaching a point of propulsion to another place or state.
"The Critical Masses", the mindset that has exploded in our modern  world, cancel culture, lynch mobs, and social justice. The removal of subtlety and shade from our world view.
The 'Critique' of our world by us. 'The Critics', critiquing us.
    "Mass", in religion.
The multilayered and complex world we now live in.

The album comprises 11 new songs recorded over after the 2019  Tenterhook album and tour. It was recorded in Tokyo and Australia with the band honing the songs across zoom calls and transferred files as the pandemic kept them in their separate countries. The band worked pretty constantly across the time period and the world events certainly gave them lots to incorporate into their songs.

Leading off with their first single 'No Wonder' released in November, the band impressed listeners with a strong song, powerful delivery, and emotive music video. The song takes the band's 'outside observer' position to look at how we've got predictably to where we are now. The video overlays beauty on darkness to counter point the off kilter tangents civilisation has taken. It is a world of beauty, but....

The second single 'World View' is released on April 14th and is available for pre-release listening on their bandcamp album now as part of the four song preview bundle.
The song sees the band experimenting with a more upbeat dance feel, with a rolling bass groove and near psychedelic guitar in places. The song will be accompanied by a new video co-created with Singer Nino Birch's daughter, Grace. A personal, visual interpretation from a family member.

There's a lot to sing about and the band deliver a 50 minute album of songs to contemplate and engage with, while enveloping the listener in the bands signature and otherworldly sound.

Please join us to listen to this collection of songs, this album experience.

Fall & Rise Again
2.
2 - No Wonder (N Birch, R Mayes) What? Did we feel the fall? Did we heed the call? T'was only a matter of time. We were menta-sliding slippery slopes of the mind. Did you watch it all unfold? Should we hold sway or simply do as we're told? Was this a playground fight for right and mine? Did we grow up and out of this game that keeps us blind? Oh oh Chorus It’s no wonder we're where we are now It’s no wonder we feel we're down and out. Did we feel the cold? Wrapped in blanket truths to keep us warm So lets say our journey re-defined lest this future falls on the shipwreck of our kind oh oh chorus It’s no wonder we came to wonder why the flight recorder logged 'mayday over and out' it’s no wonder we fell on where to right now It’s no wonder we freed this holy cow. Chorus It’s no wonder we're where we are now oh it’s no wonder we ask where to and how it’s no wonder we feel down and were out it’s no wonder we freed the holy cow.
3.
3 - Remote Science (N Birch, R Mayes) This is real Don’t let it go to your head This is real Almost feels commonplace Bridge 1 If you should feel That your feet can set out the door. Oh, Call me And I’ll be there If this is real Say you feel it in your bones Cos yes it’s real Feels like Critical Mass Bridge 2 And you should feel your legs Could make it to our door And if you should feel you’ve reached This place where there’s not choice Chorus We’re are here We’ll all be here Don’t you know? We’ll all be here Don’t you know? No need to fear No ho ho Cos we’re all come on home Come on home So this was real We let it go to our head Don’t you feel? You’re meant to be here Bridge And you should feel That your need to break out from this hold And if you should feel your feet They brought you to this door Chorus We’re all here We’ll all be here Don’t you know? No need to fear Cos we’re all come on home Cos we all come on home Come on home

8 – Asylum (N Birch, R Mayes) She said, “this is not my world All this war and strife” She said, “this is not... my pain Would you just make it go away” This is not my life, All this war and strife, This is not my pain, Make it go away Chorus All we ever want is to feel peace in our bones All we ever need Is to just be left alone This is not my world Would you make it go away, Bombs are blowing overhead And I search the rubble for my friend Chorus All we ever want is peace to lay our heads all we ever need is to just be left our homes In our bones Leave me alone Leave us alone This is not my world I can’t see myself This is not my pain Won't you make it go away Chorus All we ever want Is just to be left alone All we ever need Is peace to lay down in our home Chorus All we ever want Is to feel peace in our bones All we ever need Is just to be left alone All your life Be left alone Feel it in our bones This is not my world

9 - World View (N Birch, R Mayes) Up is always up And down is then always down, East is in the east So your west is over there What’s right in your view held fast With no regrets What’s wrong, well that’s declared To resist with all your might but chorus So What’s streaming now is that our own world view is not immune To what’s screaming out Is that what’s true for some might just not be true for you. Oh oh true for you how about you and what about me Sure, I love my family and you surely love yours too We all should be free to dream, What we want directly into view The maxim of 'do no harm' stretches till its well diffused Scattered means to our ends But when's a good day to admit it's all well confused Chorus What’s streaming now, Is that our own world view Is not immune To what’s screaming out, Is that what’s true for some Might just not be true for you And you, And we too Don't forget about you Chorus So what’s streaming now Is that our own world view is not immune To what’s screaming out Is that what’ s true for some Might just not be true for you Oh oh, what to do When's a good day, to admit that It’s all a little confused It’s stretched and over used And its all a little abused But well get through it someday somehow Chorus Cos what’s streaming now Is that our own world view is not immune To what’s screaming out Is that what’s true for some Might just not be true for you Yeah what’s streaming out Is that our own world view is not immune To what’s screaming out Is that what’s true for some might just not be true for you
